Women Lost 96 Pounds: True Weight loss Journey

Although Melissa Paluch was overweight from last many years and in the year 2022 she decided to take care of excess weight, although she was missing her doctor’s appointments and never been to visit in last 3 years, but now she was needed her physical and blood test before going for a hysterectomy.

During her test it was a shock for herself also that she has reached over 275 Lbs. and was having Type 2 diabetes as well as her heart condition was in bad shape (she was having a family history of cardiac stroke).

Her hysterectomy surgery was a failure due to she couldn’t stop bleeding apart from that she has a severe sleep apnea and other health issues.

She said “I was latterly crying because of these issues I was dealing with and couldn’t sleep” it’s enough Now” she said to herself and I have to do something about it,

I knew that my excess weight is the root cause that make me unhealthy and reduce my energy”

She lost her father two month ago with cancer and was having other health cancers that motivate her to do something about her health and wellness,

her father always asked her to take care of herself and how things can go bad like him if we neglect our health.

Beginning of Melissa Paluch Weight Loss Journey

Now it was time to overcome the roadblock so she started measuring her weight thrice a day to keep a check what is going on, But This was completely a bad idea what she mentioned.

She said “Everyday my weight fluctuate and when it shows increased I tend to skid lunch or dinner which was a negative impact on my mind and body”

She Continued “ I decided to get rid of this weight measuring scale and put it into a closet, That was the best decision I took in my entire life” she said.

She explained “although I knew that there will be times when my weight will be stagnant so I started make some non scalable goal that can achieved.

She managed to achieve several small small goals that keep her motivated during her weight loss journey.

She mention that

  • I no longer needed CPAP to control my sleep apnea.
  • My Blood pressure, diabetes medicines were reduced and cholesterol was also reduce.
  • Attain better sleep and feel energized.
  • She could climb to stair that was impossible for her few months ago.
  • My Daily walking distance increased upto 3 miles every day.
  • And Now I was planning to visit “Dissneyland”

 She also mentioned that I used to order food from online platform by six to seven times a week, this was serious and I started cooking at home and reduced the online ordering to once in a week on my cheat day.

Now I realized how much money I was wasting on ordering food online and how much damage these unhealthy food done to my body.

It was ample of money that I started saving every week no I could spent them to get some healthy ones and my “Disneyland Trip”

Meal choice: I Eat what I Want

Melissa said earlier I used to follow some diet plans that help me to lose some weight but I regain my weight as soon as I stop following those diet plan, so all in all I was at the same point, I have to cut down lot of things what I wanted to eat but couldn’t .

But now I eat what I want to have and still my progress I going well,

While her discussion with her doctor she want to have some calorie deficit diet plan as she was aiming to have a 1200 calories diet every day,

but what her doctor suggested to have at least 1400 calorie diet instead of 1200, he mentioned that initially I have to ensure that my body is getting all the nutrients it needed.

Although following this calorie deficit diet was easy initially but soon it shows impact on me like feeling of low energy having headaches and always felt hungry, “I knew that my body is not familiar with this method” She mentioned

But I kept on following and soon I started feeling good and my body completely habitual about it.

Meal Planning (Once a Week)

Melissa Paluch explained “during my weight lose journey I realized that my dinner was still there and it was the only time when I consume more calories” now I have to plan my dinner that can help me to reach my weight loss goal.

So I give-up on my diner and it was happing on Sunday nights only, She said.

My dinner was well planned although I was having my favorite food like hot dogs burgers, lasagna and chicken cutlets  but was ensuring the portion size so I could eat what I love without getting access calories,

By cutting dinner to once in a week now she need to focus on her breakfast and lunch to get proper calories and nutrient that her body needed to function properly.

She had yogurt with cereals with salad and green sandwiches. It took 2 to 3 months when she left the thought of calling “Domino’s” and those junk food temptations.

Now she was cooking herself at home make her favorite pizza with healthy ingredients,

Sometime she felt that her family might be missing dine out but to her surprise even her family was also enjoying what all she was cooking and experimenting.

Yes But she kept on dining out with her family once in a month when she has her cheat day. (But keeping the portion in mind), she said

Water was a life saver she said, “I wasn’t drinking enough because I want a huge drinker, so I decided to have 100 ounces of water everyday which was half of my body weight,

this was the another best decision I took because adding lots of water in my routine helped not only to lose weight but it observe a significant impact on my skin texture and color, I was started Glowing up, I must say!

Everyday walk and weight loss

Since begging I knew that walking helps in weight loss but I couldn’t due to lack of energy but now I join my 18 years old son on a walk every day.

And it was my first day I walked over half a mile that was quite a motivation for me, so aimed to walk at least a mile every day.

She mentioned that while july’22 was ending and I managed to walk 1 mile everyday without losing my breast and I kept on increasing the distance every week and now in sept’22 I manage to walk 3 miles every day and my walking time has also reduced,

this was really amazing to see myself walking so much of distance looking back where I couldn’t walk 100 meter, she said.

Impact on my mental health

She mentioned that she suffered from postpartum depression while her son’s birth and her depression triggered as and when I feel anxious or while getting upset.

Death of her father was another metal trauma to my life and it was difficult to control my hunger, I always wanted to have something to eat.

But when I look at myself now I find that rather than having foods all the time I’m enjoying walking everyday that is the biggest change I ever seen in myself.

Now walk is my favorite topic to talk about. And even talking to my dad who must be looking from haven and appreciating the changes I have made to myself.

Weight Loss Journey and Online Support

During her weight loss journey, A friend of Melissa Paluch was a member of a facebook group named StartToday, so she decided to became a part of this group and kept on reading the post and achievement people were posting on their health,

during her reading she came across to Stephanie Mansour’s Video that get her attention and she read her post and comments that were amazing.

Now it was my time to share my own achievement and you won’t believe I got over 1000 likes and comments on one of my post,

She Said, everyone was like cheering me up and saying” Yes Melissa You can do it” , “go Beyond your limits Melissa” I started crying to see such love and compassion and encouragement what I was missing in my entire life. She said.

Lots of stranger were my close friend and everyday motivators that drives me every day and appreciate my small achievements “ I Love you all guys” she said

Now she had an entire group of friends that has same belief what I had to keep myself fit and healthy.

 Her Weight loss advice to Others

During the interview with Melissa Paluch she started crying seeing her old pictures and what she has achieved now, she said I don’t want to keep that all to me what I have achieved and how I have travelled to my weight loss journey,

She said if anyone can benefit with my weight loss experience I would be more than happy, she shared her personal weight loss experience.

  • Keep Patience: everything or anything can’t be changed overnight, you have to be patient and keep on doing what you have started, although you might get feeling to quit but this is the time when you have to hold yourself, once you pass this phase you can achieve what you ever desired.
  • Don’t be too Strict to Yourself: she said sometime you have to cut loose of yourself ad don’t rely on measuring yourself every day, rather than measuring your weight just focus on what you eating and how you are eating (keep a check on your portion size as well), Gradually make changes to your food and life routines,
  • Enjoy what you Do: this is a thing that drives you crazy, until you enjoy what you are doing; anything becomes bored while losing interest, make small and short goals and cheer when you achieve and don’t forget to praise yourself. This would be the highest motivating factor in your weight loss journey.
  • Prioritize Yourself: Always remind it to yourself that you worth the hard work you are putting to reach to your goals.
